This might not come as a surprise, but regardless of the fact that I am a total Type B personality, I’m also slightly OCD with having things even and matching. Some (much trendier people than myself) can pull off the contrasting color look, but I’m just not as cool. Also, I do think that matching your lipstick to elements of your outfit can add a powerful punch!
I have lots of updates and changes that I need to make on this site, as some info is outdated and there are many pages currently in progress, but eventually, the Looks to Love page will house various looks for outfit inspiration! But for now, here are a few of my fave new-ish purchases.
BLU RED Kenneth Jay Jane Triple Tier Earrings ($88) don’t be mad, but I actually got mine from Baublebar($48), but they are sold out! Another pair that is similar (but is a pink and red ombre) here or another similar red option here.
APPLE CIDER Tassel earrings in ‘blush’ from Baublebar($32)
PARTY PINK I’m not going to lie, Party Pink has been my kinda party-until now! I got these amazeball, pom-pom earrings in ‘Hot Pink’ from Baublebar($32) apparently they’re sold out, but you can get on the waitlist! Or there is this other great pair, here.
More to come, my fellow lipstick loving, friends!
XO,
P.S. How beautiful are those lip pics from fellow senesister (she’s on Insta as @perpetualpucker)?! and since I occasionally wear my advertising/marketing hat and have a slight obsession with matching Pantone colors, I added the matching Pantone shade (yes, I’m a dork) but I wanted to thank Candi, for sharing her pics with us!
I’m getting SO excited about Summer approaching, which is slightly funny given the fact that I am going to be recovering from shoulder surgery, but none-the-less I love the season! I’m all about lake and beach trips, lounging by the pool, cookouts, etc. It’s also my birthday and my hubby’s too, in July. But enough of my rambling…I was going to wait until Memorial Day weekend to break these bad boys out, but I got them in the mail Saturday and I just can’t wait!
While supplies last ( but don’t worry I ordered over 40) with every purchase of $50+, you will have the option of choosing one of these ADORABLE makeup pouches! My personal fave is a toss-up between “Wing It. Life Eyeliner. Everything.” and “Confidence Level: Selfie With No Filter”.
Also, I threw together some deals and packages to make gift giving a cinch (if you do want to get me a b-day present)! Kidding, but seriously Mother’s Day is approaching, as is wedding season, etc. and not to mention that all of these products are in such a high demand they are temporarily out-of-stock (literally every. single. one.) So get it gurl! Also, items can be mixed and matched…I’m just throwing out some ideas but all products can be purchased individually. I will update this post later this afternoon to include all of my current in-stock LipSense color options, but in the meantime feel free to reach out and drop me a line to inquire about available LipSense and ShadowSense colors, or to purchase email me here.
Because I have awesome blog followers who aren’t following me on Facebook or Instagram I wanted to share my fun LipSense Giveaway! And my newest discovery with the Espresso LipSense from the limited-edition Tuscany collection.
Well today I ran out of contacts and was forced to wear my glasses, so I needed something to really make my brows stand out and I am running low on my go-to ShadowSense in Bronze Shimmer, so I decided to give the Espresso LipSense a shot. And I LOVE it! Used it as my eyeliner, too and the 1st layer on my lips! Topped with a mystery color. If you can guess correctly what I used for the next 2 layers, you win a free color (your choice of the 2)! If there is a tie I’ll draw! Although, I don’t know if I’ll want to part with my Espresso, since I’m loving it for my eyes! ShadowSense is one of our more versatile products, but it’s pretty awesome that I can use my lip color that lasts up to 18+ hours on my eyes too.
Here are two color charts to help you out! I think you’ll be surprised which color is used to create this combination. Post your guesses in the comments below! I’ll choose a winner here, and on my social pages.
As a studio art minor (PR & Marketing major) and painter in my spare time, which is pretty non-existent with two toddlers, I’m all about color theory and finding what colors compliment your season and tone. Once you determine which of the four seasons you associate with, you can fill your closet and makeup drawer with products that make your features pop.
In order to determine your season, you first need to identify if you’re warm or cool. You can read a little more about that process in this previous blog entry, here. But the easiest way to quickly determine is to hold a piece of gold and silver jewelry to your face and you will instantly see whether warm (gold) or cool (silver) looks best. When you wear the correct tone, your best features pop.
Now, the fun part is to determine what season you are. Warms are either Springs or Autumns, and cools are either Summers or Winters. To determine which season, you simply must decide if your natural hair color is light or deep. Pretty foolproof; for instance, if your hair is blonde, light brown or strawberry blonde/light red you are a light. If your hair is brunette, dark red or black you are deep. I think that it is fate that I am an Autumn since that is my very favorite season, ever.
Cool and Deep – Winter
Cool and Light – Summer
Warm and Deep – Autumn
Warm and Light – Spring
The main dimension to get right with your make-up is the undertone; whether you need warm or cool colors because if you are wearing the wrong undertone you may look tired, unwell and less than your beautiful self. This is because you’re putting colors on your face that don’t resonate with, or complement your natural coloring; they fight against your coloring.
Below are some guides for each season and the corresponding shades of LipSense, ShadowSense and BlushSense that will look the best with your coloring to really accentuate your natural beauty!
SPECIAL OFFER: Take 10% off any of the products listed from your season, when you place your order directly from me, here. Or send an email to everlastingbeautyco@gmail.com with subject “Season”. This offer lasts until December 31st!
The holy grail of style trends has arrived, InStyle Magazine, and the fashion gods have spoken…wine lips are the color for the 2015 Holiday Season. So go ahead and indulge with one of the LipSense long-lasting wine-colored shades. They are perfect for holiday soirees and Christmas cocktail parties because they last 18 hours and will not rub off on your glass (or date)! Cheers!
What Your Signature Shade Says About You
Whether you realize it or not, the lipstick color that you’ve chosen is sending people a message about you that you may or may not be aware of. According to a recent study conducted by the CoverGirl parent company, Proctor & Gamble, changing it up can be helpful. In their recent study conducted among 2,375 subjects, the researchers presented the participants with images of nine women, wearing six different shades of lip color. The participants then made assumptions of the women’s personalities, rating attributes like how creative, reliable and professional they seemed, based on the shade they were wearing.
Based on their assumptions and the color-meaning behind the shades, here are some suggestions on the colors that you should consider wearing to accurately portray your message:
Workday/Everyday: The office is a conservative place, so you should choose colors that are close to your natural hue. Wearing a nude shade conveys that you are collaborative, caring and open. According to expert Karen Pine, style psychologist and author of Mind What You Wear, The Psychology of Fashion, “You want to be taken seriously, have nothing to hide and a lot to give. There’s a vulnerability and sensitivity to your approach.”
Important Meeting/Power Shade: Choosing a plum shade can make you come off as strong and confident, yet still approachable. This color portrays a unique combination of power and warmth. Burgundy shades tend to reflect the same connotation, that you have a strong and decisive character, but not so strong that you appear unapproachable. Another winning color approach, is a Brick Red; this color represents that you are earthy, warm, strong, sturdy and established. Again, another option to convey your strong character, yet still manage to maintain approach-ability.
Family Get-Togethers: Pink is the way to go with a family gathering or when meeting people for the first time, as its commonly associated with being fun-loving and sociable. You’ll want to stick to a lighter shade of pink, which portrays the characteristics of being soft, innocent and sweet. This is most definitely the go-to-color when meeting your beau’s fam for the first time. Steer clear of the bright pink shades since they are associated with “power” and can make you come off as seductive. (Not a problem for a night out, but not what you want for family friendly events.)
Girls’ Night Out/Date Night: Alrighty ladies, this is when you can go bright and bold! Red, above all colors, commands the most attention from the human eye and has scientifically been proven to increases the pulse and heart rate, and raise blood pressure. Bright red suggests that you are exciting, energizing, confident, sexy, passionate and adventurous, to name a few. So if you’re in the mood to turn a few heads and increase a few heartbeats, this is your shade. While red hues are often seen as exciting and even sexually-aggressive colors, they can also evoke feelings of love and comfort, so this is an acceptable shade for a night out with the ladies as you “paint the town red”. Pun intended.
Wedding/Cocktail Party: Pink represents friendship, affection, and approach-ability. As previously mentioned, pink is associated with being “fun-loving” and “sociable”. Kicking up the intensity notch by selecting a brighter hue adds an edge of passion and playfulness to your look. According to Professional Image Consultant, Sandy Dumont, “A fuchsia lip says you’re elegant and sophisticated, with a strong feminine streak” making this a perfect pout pick for a cocktail party or evening wedding.
Weekend Wear:
The weekend is a time for play and donning an orange or coral tinted lip conveys that you are joyful and ready for fun. Since orange is the blending of red and yellow it creates the perfect mixture of combining the energy associated with red and the happiness that is associated with yellow. Layer this citrus shade to your pout to add an edge of youthfulness, energy, and excitement.
Hope this guide and lipcolor reference chart is helpful is selecting a shade that suits the occasion and your personality. All About That Base:
First things first, you’ll need to identify the base color of your skin. You either have more of a yellow (warm), or a pink (cool) tone. According to Women’s Health Magazine, 80 percent of women fall into the cool zone, but don’t just assume that you do.
Quickies: A quick trick for determining your undertone is to evaluate the veins on the underneath side of your forearm in natural light. If your veins appear to be more on the blue side, you’re a cool; if they’re more of a green, you’re a warm. Another quick trick is to hold silver jewelry and gold jewelry up to your skin, and disregarding personal preference about which metal you favor, compare the two options to see which pairs the best with your coloring. Silver compliments cooler (blue) undertones and gold compliments the warmer (yellow) ones. Once you have identified your undertone, this will be beneficial in helping you narrow down which lipstick shade works best for you. Generally speaking, cool tones work better with fair skinned women and warm tones work better with the darker complexions.
Foul-Proof Options: If all else fails, according to renowned makeup artist, Bobbi Brown, the most flattering lip colors will be one to two shades darker than your natural lip color. Her best piece of advice is to “find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup”. Another no-fail tip according to the pros, is to go with the universal shade for all, dusty-rose. This flattering, muted mauve color may be worn for daytime and evening events and flatters all skin colors and tones.
Rise to (err…Match to) the Occasion: After you’ve sufficiently selected which undertone you are, you can get a little more adventurous with your selections and match your lipstick shade with the occasion and/or the message you want to convey. Read more about lipstick and color psychology here, as well as color recommendations for your skin tone paired with the corresponding occasion.
