Instant Smokey Eye – Beauty Hack

If you know me well, then you know that before my husband and I got married I warned him that there were two things that I would forever splurge on without regret: jeans and beauty/skincare products. I bet he regrets that now (bwahahaha). But seriously, all kidding aside I wish I had thrown in a designer bag/shoe clause.

One of my favorite makeup artists Claudio Riaz, has this amazing set of “Instant Look” brushes. They are worth every penny. You will find naysayers online, but I’m betting that they didn’t have this splurging convo with their spouse beforehand. Regardless, I adore the “Instant Smoke Eye” brush, but I will agree that the price is a little steep at $95. Which can be purchased from Barney’s here. But, watch this quick (20ish second) demo:

I digress, but I was looking for more cost-effective brushes to try to mimic this one, (which I am still going to purchase and try some of these others out) but I had an “ah-ha” moment when I was getting ready for bed. My favorite nighttime skin routine product is the Collagen Night Pak (deets below); which just so happens to include an application brush that is pretty similar to Instant Smoke Eye! So I tried it out and, boom! Works just as well. I am not going to lie and tell you that I liked it more than the original, but the included SeneGence application brush is a higher quality than the other alternative options I was looking at, and as an added bonus, it comes with the best skincare product that has ever graced my vanity (yes I previously used La Mer, amongst others…and this is my favorite EVENING product, hands-down)! So for $85, you can get both this kickass product and a brush to provide an instant smokey eye. So allow me to bore you with my attempt at a tutorial. I had my daughter home with me for half the week, so I had some time on my hands…or eyes. I also might or might not be enjoying a cocktail as well speak.

I currently have 5 in stock and ready to ship ($85+ Shipping) shoot me an email here to claim yours! Also, I still have some of these adorable canvas makeup bags (your choice) as a free gift with purchase!

p.s. this might come as a complete shocker, but this is actually my favorite SeneGence product…over LipSense! #nojoke #thankmelater

Best Colors & Makeup for Your Season

As a studio art minor (PR & Marketing major) and painter in my spare time, which is pretty non-existent with two toddlers, I’m all about color theory and finding what colors compliment your season and tone. Once you determine which of the four seasons you associate with, you can fill your closet and makeup drawer with products that make your features pop.

In order to determine your season, you first need to identify if you’re warm or cool. You can read a little more about that process in this previous blog entry, here. But the easiest way to quickly determine is to hold a piece of gold and silver jewelry to your face and you will instantly see whether warm (gold) or cool (silver) looks best. When you wear the correct tone, your best features pop.

Now, the fun part is to determine what season you are. Warms are either Springs or Autumns, and cools are either Summers or Winters. To determine which season, you simply must decide if your natural hair color is light or deep. Pretty foolproof; for instance, if your hair is blonde, light brown or strawberry blonde/light red you are a light. If your hair is brunette, dark red or black you are deep. I think that it is fate that I am an Autumn since that is my very favorite season, ever.

  • Cool and Deep – Winter
  • Cool and Light – Summer
  • Warm and Deep – Autumn
  • Warm and Light – Spring

The main dimension to get right with your make-up is the undertone; whether you need warm or cool colors because if you are wearing the wrong undertone you may look tired, unwell and less than your beautiful self. This is because you’re putting colors on your face that don’t resonate with, or complement your natural coloring; they fight against your coloring.

Below are some guides for each season and the corresponding shades of LipSense, ShadowSense and BlushSense that will look the best with your coloring to really accentuate your natural beauty!

Beauty Secrets from The Dash Sisters’ Makeup Artist

I love when Elle shares great makeup tips from artists who are behind-the-scenes and responsible for creating looks to covet. Whether you like them or not (which I happen to love them) the Kardashian sisters have taken over Instagram with their beautiful faces and  Elle has shared their secret for these glamorous selfies, his name is Ariel Tejada. Read the full story on Elle.com, here.

He shares his top 9 tips for achieving “the perfect glow, impeccable skin, and, of course, bombshell lips”. Obviously this is right up my alley with SeneGence and LipSense. Here are his tips and my suggestions for achieving this with our incredible (let me reiterate this again, long-lasting) products that truly are nothing short of amazing.

  1. Illuminate Everything: “I love a good glow. Recently, that’s what I’ve been addicted to: making the skin look really fresh and glowy, yet still glam.” His tip is to use a liquid or cream highlighDownload-21ter on top of foundation but prior to finishing with powder. He suggested putting it on the high point of the cheeks, bridge of the nose and right at the center of the chin; blend, set and then apply powder. Ladies, let me introduce to your new BFF, MakeSense Pearlizer. It creates the perfect dewy glow. I was hesitant about using it at first because I didn’t want to appear oily. I’m so happy that I decided to give it a shot, because I now can’t live without it. I wear it daily and it is th
e only thing that keeps this tired momma looking alive and not like I should be cast on the Walking Dead. The Pearlizer can be used with any foundation, it doesn’t have to be used with our other MakeSense foundations (but they are amazing as well). You can purchase this must-have-tool for your beauty arsenal, here.

Eyeshadow can reshape your eyes: His signature eye look is achieved by using  natural, bronze-y, warm-brown eyeshadows. To make more of an almond shape darken the outer part of your eyes, and for a rounded doe-eyed look using a dark shade around your eye shape to round it ShadowSenseout. My top pick and go-to tools to achieve this look are the ShadowSense creme to powder eyeshadows from SeneGence. They are $22 each and versatile. I use mine to highlight my brows and as my eyeliner. They last all day af
ter they have set to powder and are water-proof and smudge-proof. Which is essential in the summer here is OK with 3 digit temps! My colors of choice are: Sandstone Pearl as the highlighter, Moca Java for the lid, and Smoked Topaz for accent and blending. I use Smoked Topaz for a day liner on days I’m trying to achieve a natural look, but I love to use Black Onyx as my eyeliner. It creates the perfect dramatic eye.

Here are the steps I take with these beautiful shades. Using Black Onyx as my eyeliner. This is such a popular color that it is currently on backorder, but will be coming back in stock soon!

3. Bombshell Lips: Tejada’s advice is to purchase a gloss because it livens up your look. He’s clearly a fan of Kylie’s line, which is sold out. But have no fear, we have played around with our color combos to come up with the perfect dupes for her shades. Here are some options that I have come up with utilizing our long-lasting colors.

Kylie is known for the matte lip, so I topped all these combos with our matte gloss, but I’m with Tejada, I like a glossy look so I go for the Glossy Gloss most days. Purchase the colors here and the glosses, here.
